Religion Vs. Science - Whatever!!!

Am I the only American out there who's sick of the whole science-versus-religion debate? At exactly what point did the two become mutually exclusive?

All of the pseudo-intellectuals love to sit around and laugh at the superstitious Bible-thumpers while touting the validity of Darwin's theory of evolution or the Big Bang or whatever, and all of the heaven-bound religious literalists just sit there pretending that everything that mathematics and science has told us is true except for the whole age-of-the-earth thing and anything else that might contradict the strictest of Biblical interpretations.

The fact is that science doesn't concern itself with religion and religion shouldn't concern itself with science. The people that try and force the two together are the same people who tried to marry their dog and cat when they were four-years-old. And much like the dog-and-cat experiment, putting science and religion together doesn't work. Not because the two say differently about things such as evolution/creation (which they don't, unless you're dealing with a strictly literal translation), but because your cat wants nothing to do with your hound dog, and you are a four-year-old who isn't legally licensed to perform weddings (plus the dog has been cheating on the cat anyway).

And didn't the Catholic Church persecute Galileo for his insistence that the Earth revolves around the sun (a notion that is now accepted as fact), an idea that in retrospect doesn't really seem contrary to Biblical teachings at all?

Either way, I'm sick of the debate. Teach the Bible in church, teach science at school.  It is as simple as that.
